Caleb
Good morning and welcome to the International Race of Hampeons, coming to you live from where you get your broadcasts. On tonight's episode, we have hot dish versus casserole. We have tales of maintenance and we have tales of 4.6 mod motor. So let's kick it off with the hot dish versus casserole debate. Take it away, Gino, for team hot dish.
Geno
All right. I mean, it's just, it's called hot dish. The dish, it's hot. It makes sense. I will accept the word casserole when it is made with tuna though, because tuna casserole is less clunky and flows better than tuna hot dish, but tater tot hot dish. It, I mean, it's the original and the best, but there's other ones. There's a, there's a chow mein one. There's a variety of hot dish that's called goulash, which bears absolutely no resemblance to the Hungarian dish of the same name, but both are delicious. Anyway, like, if you say casserole and you're referring to anything other than the baking dish in which hot dish is served, Or like I said before, one that's made with tuna, you can get the fuck out.
Caleb
Alrighty, we are coming on strong from Team Hot Dish.
Geno
Also, the game is called Duck Duck Grey Duck or Go Fuck Yourself.
Caleb
Minnesota coming up. I was gonna say Minnesota over here, you know, not being so Minnesota nice. All right, Juice.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, on the side of casserole, I concede the point entirely. Gino wins.
Geno
If we're gonna go Minnesota-isms here, I feel like we should stick— we should do one that's actually germane to the subject of this podcast, which is whipping shitties.
Justin "The Juice"
Whipping shitties is the best term for, for doing donuts and shit, right? Yeah, yeah, that's the best term for it. I'm here for that. I concede to that point as well. But now with— now with casserole, though. All right, there is one. There's one thing that I think would be a sin to call it a hot dish, and that'd be green bean casserole. And green— I'm a big fan. All of the Green bean casserole is like shorthand for white people in, in non-white spaces. I've, I've experienced because every time I bring it up in non-white spaces, I get laughed at. But then I— then, then they actually try it and they're like, damn. All right, never mind.
Geno
Yeah, I'll allow green bean casserole because again, it's a flow issue, you know? Yeah, exactly right.
Justin "The Juice"
The only one I'm gonna stand 10 toes down for is green bean casserole. Everything else, I do like the quaintness of hot dish. I'm kind of here for that.
Caleb
That's fine.
Geno
Like tater tot hot dish just sounds right. And it's phenomenal.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, I'm here for that.
Caleb
Yeah. Likewise. So this broadcast is officially on Team Hot Dish. Y'all heard it here, folks. Now, Going back to the green bean casserole though, I shit y'all not, when I lived in Argentina, I did for some of our friends from church, we, I decided, you know, I'm going to share the, uh, I'm going to share the Thanksgiving tradition with them. And so I went, I figured out how to make cream of mushroom soup from scratch. So I can make green bean casserole from scratch.
Justin "The Juice"
Could you not get cream of mushroom in a store anywhere there? I wouldn't be surprised if not.
Caleb
You can get it in Brazil, but you can't get it in Argentina.
Justin "The Juice"
That's really funny because Argentina is whiter than Brazil.
Caleb
And they are somehow— and they are much more allergic to salt from personal experience.
Justin "The Juice"
Allergic to salt.
Caleb
I don't mean to offend our one or two Argentinian listeners out there in the ether, but one of the great travesties of life in Argentina is you go to a parrilla and you sit down and you're expecting an amazing, wonderful steak. Which it is. They've got some of the best beef in the world and they bring it to your table and the asshole in the back cooking it forgot to put salt on the damn thing. And on top of that, if you're in the city of Buenos Aires, they've got a city ordinance. They got the low sodium shit on the table that don't do right, which that's just travesty on top of travesty.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, my mom used to have that shit when I was growing up. Now she at least rocks the kosher salt.
Geno
Yeah, but I mean, I'm not gonna lie and say I don't have a big container of MSG in my cabinet, but it gets used for specific things. It is not a replacement for salt.
Caleb
No, no.
Justin "The Juice"
So, so you're telling me that in Argentina they have access to some of the world's best beef, but they don't, they don't take advantage of that?
Caleb
Oh, they eat a ton of the stuff. They just don't salt it.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, that's what I mean. They don't actually enjoy it.
Caleb
I mean, you know, of course me being me, you know, I'd get some of it. I'd get some down at the butcher shop and bring it home. I'd do the whole dry brine, give it a little, give it a little touch of the old MSG, you know, to bring out some of that umami.
Geno
The flavor enhancer as God intended.
Caleb
And, you know, I do it on the stove and cast iron and, you you know, be some of the best stuff you ever eat in your life. But, and you know, you go to places like Don Julio, they're about the only ones that salt it because most of their clients are gringos. Because let's face it, rich foreigners are the only ones who can afford eating there. But—
Justin "The Juice"
Wait, they got Don Julio down there?
Caleb
The Don Julio Steakhouse, man.
Justin "The Juice"
That's— we have those in the States, right?
Caleb
No, I think you're thinking of a tequila.
Justin "The Juice"
Oh.
Geno
Or just alcoholics.
Justin "The Juice"
We have those. We certainly have those.
Caleb
That's what Wisconsin is for.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, shout out.
Caleb
Shout out to our friends in Wisconsin.
Justin "The Juice"
Speaking of, my beverage of choice for this episode is a Victoria Cerveza. It's pretty good.
Caleb
Not bad, not bad.
Geno
It's a 24-ounce can of hams from the land of sky blue waters.
Caleb
Just like one-third of this podcast.
Geno
And I just had a great merch idea that I sent the both of you.
Caleb
So good news though on the merch front, because the team of experts A team of merchandising and marketing experts here at Hampians Broadcast International have spent days poring over and researching the optimum optimized merch for a broadcast of this caliber and of an institution with this level of gravitas.
Justin "The Juice"
Gesundheit.
Caleb
So bless you. But on Monday, I'm actually meeting with a fella that runs a union screen printing shop and they do print on demand. And they've done a lot of the more progressive campaign merch, like AOC stuff. So I'm going to give him a holler and see if he'd be willing to do a print-on-demand store for us. So we can have union-made Union Bug merchandise because the Union Bug's important.
Geno
Indeed. Love that.
Justin "The Juice"
And it's made in the US. And it's made in the USA, baby. Let's go.
Geno
A country that has never done anything problematic.
Justin "The Juice"
Nothing whatsoever. No, but legit, though.
Geno
Especially not in South America.
Justin "The Juice"
No, no, especially not in South America.
Caleb
Nope, not at all.
Geno
This is, this is a pro-United Fruit podcast.
Caleb
Oh, that's going a step too far.
Justin "The Juice"
Give me a Chiquita banana, baby.
Geno
To clarify, For all of our South American listeners, that is a joke. Fuck United Fruit. May they rot in hell.
Caleb
You know, that might be pushing it a little.
Justin "The Juice"
Well, you're pushing it. You're pushing it because you got a Fiat.
Caleb
We don't talk about that. Well, okay. We, we are talking about the Fiat.
Geno
Oh shit.
Caleb
The damn— some dumbass in that car's history. And I say this with all the love and affection I can summon for this sort of dumbassery. But some dumbass put a voltage regulator for a 28mm slip ring in an alternator with 32. Which, uh, for those of you who don't know what that does, it just kind of— slip rings start chewing into the plastic brush holders and, you know, makes a big nice old mess. And, you know, you get this bullshit. You'll end up with chipped brushes and, uh, not charging very well. So I get to rebuild an alternator this weekend.
Justin "The Juice"
Oh, when I needed an alternator rebuilt, I luckily was in the Nashville area and found an actual shop that rebuilds alternators and starters, which is a rarity these days.
Caleb
Not so rare on this side of the planet, but, uh, we still fix stuff here.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, but I needed it done because that was with the Peugeot. So it's like, good luck. Yeah, I couldn't find anything. So I was like, I need this shit rebuilt.
Caleb
Speaking of, I don't— what is our favorite French automaker? I feel like Peugeot is in the running. But I don't know.
Justin "The Juice"
I have, I have a, I have an answer. It's, uh, but I want to hear yours first.
Caleb
So for me, it's tough because I like Peugeot. I like the idea of Peugeot. I like the weirdness of C20 back in the day, but at the same time, most of their stuff was wrong-wheel drive.
Geno
Yeah, but it was the coolest kind of wrong-wheel drive.
Caleb
I mean, you had the, the Maserati SM Well, I mean, that's the kind of activity you're into if you willingly buy one of those.
Geno
But hey, this is not a kink-shaming podcast.
Caleb
It is not.
Justin "The Juice"
No shame. It's just the truth, but no shame.
Caleb
If you are the type of masochist that willingly drives A Maserati SM, please write to us. We want to know what's going through your head. I've got one of these in my family because my Uncle Bob had one at one point.
Justin "The Juice"
I'd have one.
Geno
I bet for the, for the 2 weeks out of the year that it runs properly, I bet it's a fucking dream to drive. I mean, Yeah, that's—
Caleb
it's a quad cam Maserati V6.
Justin "The Juice"
And a Citroën everything else.
Caleb
Which means it rides amazingly.
Geno
Yes.
Justin "The Juice"
Pushed down a hill.
Caleb
No, not pushed down a hill because then the hydropneumatic suspension don't work. Because you have to have the motor running for the suspension to function.
Geno
God, I love just the absolute insanity of French cars.
Justin "The Juice"
We're, uh, we're throwback— we're— I'm gonna throw it back to a previous, uh, uh, episode. We're gonna GM TBI swap the, uh, Maserati V6 because what, it's got like Bosch K-Jet or whatever shittronic?
Caleb
I think it's D-Jet. I don't think it's K-Jet. If it was K-Jet, it might work. Maybe.
Geno
Might.
Caleb
Speaking as someone who has owned more than one K-Jet car.
Justin "The Juice"
So, uh, first of all, putting Iron Duke in everything for the meme, uh, that's the first thing I have to say. Um, second of all, So if we're talking Big 3, the— in my opinion, the answer is Citroën. Citroën's the best. Just not more recently, but just historically, Citroën's the best. But all of them historically have been weird as fuck. And weird as fuck is exactly how I like my cars.
Caleb
Yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
Now, Peugeot's been weird as fuck in certain ways, but all the hydropneumatic suspension shit just makes me It's, it's, it's, it gets me going, right? I love that shit.
Caleb
Yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
Um, yeah, like, but jokes on you, I'm into that shit. Yeah, jokes on you, I'm into that. Exactly. I am into that. I'm— no, don't kink shame because I am into that shit.
Geno
So, but I would love, love to go driving around a Citroën Maserati SM. I think that'd be just a load of fun.
Justin "The Juice"
That being said, Peugeot somehow figured out to make a car almost as comfortable with traditional suspension. So props to them. The 505 was a dream, the one I had, and that was with blown fucking suspension and everything, like blown struts and everything.
Geno
It's not that hard to make a comfortable car. I had, I had in my misspent youth a '72 Oldsmobile Toronado, and it was like driving a living room around.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, that's how I always describe the, the Peugeot, though. that I had, except, I mean, I would say it was driving, it was like driving a couch around, but yeah, same idea.
Geno
Yeah, but the Tornado was huge, so it was the entire living room.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, exactly. Now the Peugeot, it somehow ended up being the most comfortable car I've ever owned, even though it simultaneously, like it didn't have working AC, it choked you out with diesel fumes leaking into the cabin. Um, like everything else that was wrong with it should have made— should have docked points, and it did dock comfort points. But even with the comfort points docked from it, it still was the most comfortable car I've ever owned. It was insane.
Caleb
So maybe it wasn't so comfortable. Maybe it was the carbon monoxide poisoning.
Justin "The Juice"
Well, I mean, if that's what caused the comfort, you're still comfortable, aren't you?
Caleb
I mean, we know the title to the theme song from MASH.
Geno
Suicide is pointless.
Justin "The Juice"
I mean, I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd too.
Caleb
So circling back to our broadcast and our love of French vehicles. So we have a vote. We've got a vote for C20. Gino, are you—
Geno
where are you going? I was, uh, I'm firmly on board the Citroën train.
Caleb
See, for me, it's, it's a tough one between Citroën, Peugeot, and Matra.
Justin "The Juice"
No, see, here's the thing. This is what was my point was going to be. Uh, my vote is not for Citroën. If we're talking Big 3, my vote is Citroën. If we're talking Citroën, Peugeot, Renault, it's Citroën. But that is not my answer.
Caleb
What is your answer?
Justin "The Juice"
Venturi.
Caleb
Ooh, Venturi. I think I'm going with Matra for mine though.
Justin "The Juice"
Ooh, maybe Alpine.
Geno
Ooh.
Caleb
Alpine is good. But here's why I would—
Geno
Alpine was in, uh, wasn't that the car, uh, um, oh gosh, what was her name? I'm gonna out myself as a weeb here. Um, is it Misato in Evangelion has the Alpine?
Caleb
Yes, she has an Alpine and also the album Out Loud. By Boom Boom Satellites, which is a Japanese band, has an A-110 on the COVID Somehow you're more of a weeb than I am, and I'm, I'm a massive weeb.
Justin "The Juice"
I'm a weeb who just likes the aesthetic of stuff but hasn't seen nearly enough anime.
Geno
I mean, to be in my defense, I have not seen an anime made in the last 10 years.
Caleb
Neither have I.
Justin "The Juice"
Uh, car animes. Speaking of, um, uh, have you seen, uh, Initial D? Of course.
Caleb
No.
Geno
So here I have a— I have a carfession. Nope, I have a confession to make. Carfession sounds bad. I have a confession to make. I have not seen Initial D.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, it's a— it's a— it's a slow burner, but it's— it's kind of— you kind of have to, like— yeah, like, like You kind of have to see Initial D.
Geno
I did, I did request it from the local library and it came in while I was out of town and I missed it, so I'll have to request it again.
Justin "The Juice"
I've got a, I've got a couple of Initial D DVDs, um, that someone from like Finland sent me and like a, a blind, uh, a white elephant, uh, sort of Christmas thing from back in the day on Opposite Lock. Seen enough to, to to say I've seen Initial D, right? Um, so I also have a, a big-ass thick manga, uh, of Initial D that I keep in the Stagia because of course I do. And I also put the DVD in the Stagia as well just for, you know, decoration.
Caleb
The aesthetics.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah. Um, so Initial D, fantastic. Um, it's not entirely about cars. It is about cars, but, you know, it's like about— it's about some, you know, like, uh, uh, late high schoolers.
Caleb
It's about cars the way this show is about cars.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, it's like some, like, late high schoolers' interpersonal relationships and shit, you know. It's like, whatever. Um, yeah.
Geno
Kenpachi Roku.
Justin "The Juice"
And a Hachiroku. So, uh, Initial D, just for the iconicness of it, you have to see it. There's the new edition, uh, what's the— forget what it's called, but there's like a new edition Initial D manga that's called something else that's like a continuation of it. Apparently that's good. Um, but, but, uh, the other, the other ones I have to recommend are Wangan Midnight Yeah, Wangan Midnight.
Caleb
Yep.
Justin "The Juice"
Which, that's really fun, um, you know, about, uh, highway street racing, um, basically Midnight Club shit, right? Um, and then anyway, yeah, Initial D is great, Wangan Midnight's great. Uh, then also the, the one I always recommend is, uh, it's called You're Under Arrest. It's, um, a cop drama sort of anime.
Caleb
Yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
Um, and it's got lots of gratuitous titties as well as lots of gratuitous mechanical shots of engines and things. Like, um, like it'll like do a— like go into the engine bay, go into the—
Caleb
They had a very clearly defined audience for this.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, it'll show like the combustion of the engine and stuff, and it's like the coolest It's really well drawn. It's really cool. And the, the, the— there's like really cool motorcycles, really cool like kei car cop cars and stuff and other cop cars. But then like one of the first few episodes, like they're chasing down a Lancia Delta Integrale in like a hurricane.
Geno
Oh, nice.
Caleb
Nice.
Justin "The Juice"
Which is like, it's so cool. It's like, it's such a car anime even though it's a cop anime.
Caleb
So going back though, trying to rein it in a little. And so we have Venturi. Gino, you're on Team Citroën, correct?
Geno
Yes.
Caleb
I think I'm going with Team Matra.
Justin "The Juice"
All right. These are all fantastic choices.
Caleb
Do you want my explanation for Matra, though?
Geno
Well, obviously.
Caleb
Because—
Justin "The Juice"
I think I know, but yeah.
Caleb
So, you know that the biggest problem with having a sports coupe is you've only got 2 seats. They thought about this because they are French, and they decided they were going to make a coupe for the kind of people who have a ménage à trois. Mm-hmm.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, that I've seen a couple of my— I think I saw one at Lane Motor Museum. That shit's 3 wide.
Caleb
Exactly. It's like you, your partner, and your other partner.
Justin "The Juice"
You, your, your wife, and your wife's boyfriend. No, um, what if they— what if they did a— what if they did a 3+3? That would be sick.
Caleb
Wasn't that every General Motors sedan from about 1950 until 1996?
Justin "The Juice"
I mean, bench seats, sure, but I'm talking buckets.
Caleb
You might be on to something.
Justin "The Juice"
I mean, if we're talking bench seats, shit, the Expedition I was just working on today, that bitch seats 9. 3 in the front, 3 in the middle, 3 in the back.
Caleb
Almost enough for your polycule.
Justin "The Juice"
I wish.
Geno
Wasn't there, uh, wasn't there a supercar that sat 3? I feel like the driver was full.
Justin "The Juice"
McLaren F1?
Geno
Could be. I don't know, I never sat in one because I'm broke ass.
Caleb
Yeah, I think it was a McLaren F1. And B, I understand your feeling as someone who is also in the broke realm. And part of the reason I'm broke at the moment is—
Geno
You drive a Fiat and you have to fix it?
Caleb
Hey, the Fiat has been mostly reliable-ish.
Justin "The Juice"
I'm gonna blame me being broke all the time on my mental illness, but it's really just because I'm stupid.
Geno
You should blame it on Caleb's Fiat.
Justin "The Juice"
It's, it's— yeah, that's why. You're right.
Caleb
The biggest problem— the Fiat really has not done anything unexpected as far as it's breaking. Everything that has broken on it— no, everything that has broken on it has either been previous owners' lack of maintenance Or it is a common fault and I was planning on correcting the design issue anyway.
Justin "The Juice"
The unexpected part's the reliability.
Caleb
Hey, it starts every time.
Justin "The Juice"
So let's get into, uh, the, the tales of maintenance. Um, I'll make it quick, uh, and you can bounce off of it. So, I did my first timing belt job.
Caleb
How'd that one go?
Justin "The Juice"
It went! My end— I didn't, I didn't get it out of time, at least. So I didn't blow anything up. But yes—
Caleb
Were there any leftover bolts or screws?
Justin "The Juice"
Uh, there— no, no, actually no.
Geno
So you didn't make it better.
Justin "The Juice"
I know I didn't make it— I didn't, I didn't make it lighter. Uh, so what ended up— so I, I started to take it apart, the Stagea. I started— it last had a timing belt done in 2013. Yeah, I was kind of living on, uh, borrowed time there for a while because I put quite a few miles on that thing with that timing belt in it. So I finally just said screw it, I, I can't trust this thing. I'm gonna park it until I get the timing belt done. So, uh, my sister, uh, she needs her timing belt done on her IS300, which was my first car.
Caleb
Yeah, um, we remember from a couple episodes ago.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, so her— the payment that she is paying me to do her timing belt essentially paid for all the tools and my timing belt kit.
Caleb
For real question, do you have an Ugga Dugga now?
Justin "The Juice"
I have a fucking Ugga Dugga now, baby, and I've been using the hell out of it. It's so great.
Caleb
It guggas and it duggas.
Justin "The Juice"
It does. Shout out to the new Greenworks Pro line at Walmart. Uh, shout out Torque Test Channel for putting me onto that. Let's go, thing kicks ass. I took it apart until I got to having to take off the Uh, accessory belts and everything, because I was like, all right, like I took out the radiator, a few other things. I was like, all right, uh, you know, now I actually gotta think about what I'm doing because I've taken the radiator out a billion times. So a few days later, I got back at it, just kind of started going at it. Didn't really know exactly what I was doing with everything, but sort of figured it out on the fly. Uh, got all the accessory belts out. Got the, the harmonic balancer off. That was a little bit of a learning experience, but I got it off.
Caleb
See, in Volvo world, it doesn't matter about those because they all walk— they all walk around the crank anyway.
Justin "The Juice"
Well, this one's keyed. Um, so I ugga-dugga'd it. I ugga-dugga'd it. Ugga-dugga'd the bolt. But then, you know, Had to use a pulley puller or a harmonic balancer puller to pull off the actual balancer. Then there she was in all her glory, the motherfucking timing belt. Dry rotted, definitely needed replacing. Put the fresh one on. Shout out Tomei. It's a nice blue color. It's Kevlar, you know, fancy, much stronger belt. Shout out, uh, Terra Firma Automotive for selling kits. that came with all the pulleys, bolts, everything. The kit came with a, um, a stud for the, uh, tensioner. Um, I didn't feel like replacing the damn stud. Who cares?
Geno
Uh, it's the only stud that matters is the one behind the wheel.
Justin "The Juice"
You're goddamn right.
Geno
Amen.
Justin "The Juice"
But no, but like, I didn't feel like trying to figure out how to get that fucking stud out of the block, so I said screw it.
Geno
I don't—
Justin "The Juice"
why do I have to replace this I'm not replacing the stud. Nobody else I saw that was doing it ever replaced the studs, so I'm just— I'm like, I don't need to do that. Put the timing belt on, made sure everything was, you know, everything was lined up. All the dots were lined up on the crank, on— and on the cams. My OCD bugs me because I put the timing belt on, there's, there's 2 yellow lines on the timing belt that actually line up with the timing, uh, marks. I didn't do it. I I didn't put them on the timing marks, and now that's bugging me, but I can't be bothered to fix that, uh, because that would be stupid because it doesn't matter. It's a belt. I didn't realize that those— that's what those yellow marks were for. It just makes it easier to kind of eyeball if everything's still in time, but who cares?
Geno
Yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
No, put the timing belt on, put the— put the idler pulley on, uh, just cranked it down. You put it back together. Did not give a shit about the torque spec, which I probably should have. Um, then I misread and misinterpreted the manual I was reading, and I thought you kind of had to like tension the automatic tensioner and then tighten it down. And, uh, or okay, so it said like turn the crank over twice fully, like turn the engine over like fully twice, and order to get it to set its tension. Like, put the bolt in on the automatic tensioner just a little bit, you know, just to hold it in place but not tension it down. Turn that tension over, it'll get its tension. And then it said put a, put a, um, Allen key or, or whatever in the hole on the tensioner to hold it in place while you actually torque the bolt to spec once it's in, once the belt's tensioned. I thought that meant that you had to like tension the tensioner, like to like really give it some, some gumption while you torqued it down to spec. That wasn't the case. Uh, you're supposed to just literally hold it in the spot that it decided to be in. And I start it and it's not out of time, so my engine didn't blow up, but it sounds like it has a supercharger now. Oh.
Geno
And I'm like, oh, put a supercharger on it.
Justin "The Juice"
I should twin charge the fucking RB.
Caleb
Uh, in charge.
Justin "The Juice"
So I said, that, that ain't— that doesn't seem right. Uh, I did some Google Fu. I was like, maybe, maybe it's just the accessory belts that I tensioned too much. It, it, it wasn't. It was the timing belt. Uh, so, and I knew what I had done. So I was like, even if I— it was the accessory belts that were too tight, I know I messed up with that tensioner. So I was like, all right, I guess I gotta redo all this tomorrow. Uh, so I went in there and I was like, maybe I can just stick a wrench in there in the lower timing cover, because the taking the top one off is easy. Don't have to take any of the accessory belts off or nothing. I was like, maybe I can just stick a wrench in there, undo the tensioner, and you know, it'll be fine. Nope, couldn't get that in there. Had to take the whole damn thing apart again. And even then, if I would have done it that way, it probably would have messed something else up. Probably wouldn't have been in perfect tension. I had to take the whole damn thing apart.
Caleb
This is why I appreciate Volvo, because they just put a hole in the timing cover with a plug.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, that would have been a lot easier, but of course it's a Nissan, so—
Geno
It's the red blocks.
Caleb
Well, yeah, but that's the best motor.
Geno
I mean, you're not wrong. Well, so anyway, the RB is closer to a white block than a red block.
Caleb
Eh, you make a point. Except they don't— you can't, you know, you can't just give you 5 with an RB and you can with a white block, which makes it a lot better.
Justin "The Juice"
5-cylinder RB would be hilarious. Uh, but anyway, uh, so I had to take everything back out again. Take the radiator out, take all the accessory belts, take timing cover, take the harmonic balancer, all that off again just so I could loosen the automatic tensioner and put it in there properly. And then I also took out the, uh, idler— or I also undid the idler pulley and gave it proper torque spec. instead of just tight. Uh, the second time it was way easier, took way less time because I actually knew what I was doing, which isn't a bad thing. Uh, and I'll, I'll get to that, I'll get to that in a second. But I put everything back together, started it up, ta-da! No more supercharger noise, uh, no more whine, and, uh, it's good now. I did it! I changed the timing belt myself on the Stagea, and I'm very proud of myself for that. Um, but right now the Stagea is still parked even though it runs just fine, um, because I still need to— I'm in the process of moving and I need to register it in Tennessee.
Caleb
Are you getting the Jazz Cat or are you getting the, uh, Horny Fish?
Justin "The Juice"
It needs a Jazz Cat. I love the Jazz Cat.
Geno
The Jazz Cat's really good.
Justin "The Juice"
So yeah, actually, now that— yeah, I actually really should get a Jazz Cat plate. I love the Jazz Cat.
Caleb
Get the Jazz Cat.
Geno
I almost want to move for the Jazz Cat.
Justin "The Juice"
The Jazz Cat's fantastic.
Caleb
Hey, Tennessee needs all you can— all the help it can get.
Justin "The Juice"
And I'm gonna bleed the brakes because it also needs that. It needs fresh brake fluid in the whole system. Because the brake fluid's nasty. Uh, it also probably needs a wheel bearing. It also definitely needs suspension bushings and probably ball joints. I ain't gonna worry about that for right now. Uh, I'm just gonna bleed the brakes because I am gonna take it to the Dragon in October and it at least needs that done.
Caleb
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Justin "The Juice"
Um, for the, uh, GTR versus the Dragon meet, uh, which all the Stagea fam go to because there's no specific Stagea meet.
Caleb
Uh, I mean, it's, it's mostly a GTR.
Justin "The Juice"
If you got an Autech, it basically is a GTR wagon.
Caleb
Yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
Uh, but it's nonetheless a GTR. Yeah, exactly, because it's a wagon. Uh, so yeah, Stagea's back in business. It just isn't insured right now, so it's parked up in the building. Hopefully a tree doesn't fall fall on the building, otherwise I'm fucked.
Geno
Um, be covered under homeowners.
Justin "The Juice"
Oh, it would? Oh, okay. All right, we're fine then. Um, so I'm dailying the Expedition right now, and, uh, just recently, uh, I took the Expedition out to the tire shop to get the— because it, it vibrated to shit on the highway.
Caleb
Uh, so Are you telling me you figured out how to get death wobble on a non-Jeep?
Justin "The Juice"
Yes, yes. So I— it was death wobbling on the highway. Uh, it always— it kind of did that for— it's been doing that for a hot minute, but it's been a lot worse recently. So I said, okay, this needs to get fixed. So took it out to the shop. They, uh, balanced, rotated, and, uh, the tires, and they aligned the thing. $150, no big deal. And, uh, yeah, that fixed the problem because I was like, okay, I'm gonna knock that out of the way, and if it still does it, it's a suspension issue. But I also had them take a look at this— or suspension or steering rack issue. I also had them take a look at all that, and they said all that was fine. And then I took it on the highway.
Caleb
I'm just over here with the, uh, going to the tire shop, you know, just for a Minor service is $150. I mean, that's 2/3 of a set of tires on my car.
Justin "The Juice"
I know, I know, shit's ridiculous. But, but that's a relatively fair price for all that here in the States. So, so it ended up being that it was just a balance and an alignment that needed to happen. And the thing is perfectly fine on the highway now. We got no more death wobble. Um, it also needed a tire rotation bad, so I'm glad I got that done. But, uh, while it was there, they discovered something quite interesting. One of the studs have snapped off the passenger side front wheel. And, uh, I was like, did y'all do that? And they were like, no, it wasn't us. So I, uh, I inspected it and I didn't notice it before because they have, uh, They have hubcaps, right? The steel wheels. It's an Expedition XLT, uh, not an Eddie Bauer. It's a '99 Expedition 4.6 XLT 4x4. So—
Caleb
4.6 mod motor.
Justin "The Juice"
4.6 mod motor, baby. All day, every— 2-valve. 2 fucking valves. That's all you need.
Geno
You might be getting one for Anne.
Justin "The Juice"
Legit, it's a fucking— it's awesome. I actually fucking love— I love the shit out of this truck. It's fucking great.
Geno
If we pick up an MV1 that has the 4.6 mod motor in it.
Justin "The Juice"
Hell yeah, 2 valves is all you need. Uh, but anyway, uh, so they— so they were like, no, we didn't do it. And I was, you know, I side-eyed that. I'm like, sure you didn't. But I took off the hubcap and I look at the snapped stud, and I, like I said, didn't notice it before because it had a hubcap and I hadn't taken it off in forever, so I didn't notice. Um, and that snap stud was rusty as hell on the end where it snapped off, and I'm like, okay, I believe them actually. They didn't do it. Uh, so it must have been at the fucking Ford dealership that it was last at when the brakes were done and the— and all the fluids were changed, diff fluid, all that shit. And, uh, yeah, they didn't, uh, they didn't disclose that they snapped a stud off, so that's fantastic. Um, But, you know, the tire shop was like, yeah, you still got 4 studs, you're fine. But, you know, we can fix it, it's like $100. I was like, ah, all right, I might, I might get that done. Um, but then they also found, uh, that the—
Caleb
Studs?
Justin "The Juice"
They also found that the, uh, rear diff pinion seal was leaking. And I stuck my head under there, and sure enough, the rear diff pinion seal was leaking. Son of a bitch. Son of a bitch. So I took the thing home and, uh, I was like, yeah, me and my dad were sort of brainstorming because it is my dad's truck technically, even though I'm really the only one that ever uses it. Um, and, uh, we were brainstorming. He's like, yeah, if it's only $100 to get all that done— because they said $100, but I'm like, I don't know if they're gonna replace the pinion seal for $100, maybe the wheel stud. Um, call back the tire shop and yeah, pinion seal would not be— it would be more like $500. Wheel stud would have been like $100. Um, so I said, uh, screw it. You know, my dad— I'm working for my dad right now. I'll do it. I got an ugga dugga now. I'll do it.
Caleb
Ugga and dugga.
Justin "The Juice"
The first thing I did was replace the wheel stud. Took the wheel off, took the brake off. Uh, brake caliper off. Um, took the—
Caleb
Studs are easy.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, took the freaking— I, I was surprised on how easy it was because of— it does have a lot of surface rust going on on, on the hub, right? I, I got to the hub and I'm like, all right, there's the snapped off stud, let me just hit it with a ball peen. Like 2 taps and it was out, and I was expecting to have to like wail on that thing. It was easy.
Caleb
So did you have to clearance anything to get the new one in?
Justin "The Juice"
No, sir. I just slipped the new one in, made sure lined up with the splines. Um, I was trying to find a big enough, um, bolt to go around it to then put the wheel bolt on, uh, the lug nut on to, you know, ugh-a-dug it, ugh-a-dug it in. to pull it in. Uh, I could not find a big enough bolt, uh, real, like, in, like, in the, just in my immediate vicinity. I ended up using an old faucet head to do it, and the faucet head was made of brass, which was even more perfect because that's a soft metal. And you better believe it worked like a fucking champ.
Caleb
Nice.
Justin "The Juice"
So I got everything put back together and And, uh, got a new wheel stud. And then I realized when I got everything put back together, my dumbass forgot to buy a new lug nut.
Geno
Way to go, dipshit.
Caleb
Way to go, dipstick.
Justin "The Juice"
But that's, that's the— that's a fucking— I, I'll, I'll run to O'Reilly's tomorrow, grab a fucking lug nut, and I don't have to take anything apart to put it on, so who cares?
Geno
I had to do like 3 of them on On my old Ranger because some idiot didn't retorque a wheel.
Justin "The Juice"
Is the some idiot with the in the room with us right now?
Geno
You know, I don't want to talk about it. Replacing the wheel.
Justin "The Juice"
It's I've.
Caleb
I know I've had some wheel-related mishaps before. I understand.
Justin "The Juice"
Look, I forgot shit too. I can't, I can't, I can't give you too much shit. It hasn't been wheel-related, but I have forgot important shit too.
Caleb
Like the incident that led to me putting E30 wheels on my Fiat 124 that time. Fiat used wheel bolts. not wheel studs. And I didn't smack the back of the car and go, yep, that— yep, she's good and tight, you know?
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, yep.
Caleb
Yeah, that's not going anywhere. I forgot to do that.
Justin "The Juice"
That'll do it. That's torque spec.
Caleb
I'm driving my mom home from her birthday dinner. And, you know, going up, you know, Tennessee Highway 69 out toward her house.
Justin "The Juice"
Nice.
Caleb
And come around like this long sweeper about 55 mile an hour, and I feel a little shimmy in the back of the car, and then I feel a bump, and I see the left rear wheel.
Justin "The Juice"
It's overtaking you.
Caleb
You know, about 55 mile an hour, and it just goes doo doo doo doo doo. You know, like you see in the comedies, and it just lands in the ditch. I was working on a help desk at the time, and my manager, bless his heart, did not believe me and asked that I go and take a picture, a selfie out by the car with a piece of paper with a date on it to prove why I was not showing up for work. And, uh, I'm telling you, those early career jobs that don't pay for shit, those are the worst ones to work for, you know?
Justin "The Juice"
Yes, absolutely.
Geno
Dude, all like— it's crazy, like the broke-ass jobs want to know where you are all the time and like what you're doing every second of the day, and the more you get paid, the less they care.
Justin "The Juice"
It's true.
Caleb
It's true.
Justin "The Juice"
So yeah, oh, I was just gonna say, so, uh, tomorrow, uh, my sister's coming up to the lake and I've got to replace the timing belt on the IS300 and the water pump. But luckily I've already done it twice on the Stagea, so I know how to do it on the inline-6. So it should go nice and swimmingly, hopefully, unless I snap a bolt.
Caleb
Remember, the ugga, the ugga dugga is for when it spins counterclockwise, not clockwise.
Justin "The Juice"
Yes, yes. And, uh, so hopefully, hopefully that'll go well. Uh, but then all— then on, if I get that done tomorrow, it gives me the whole weekend to then do the pinion seal, the rear pinion seal on— or the rear diff pinion seal on the Expedition. Um, but if it takes tomorrow and Saturday, um, then, uh, I'm gonna only have Sunday to do the rear pinion seal, which is pushing it, uh, which is gonna be annoying because I've got to go on an 8-hour road trip, 8-hour one-way, uh, in the Expedition on Monday up to Sandusky, Ohio, so I can grab the rest of my shit. And rent a U-Haul trailer and drive it on back to Tennessee.
Caleb
Nice. Nice. Now, of course, speaking of Hampian adventures, I'm gonna drop a little teaser for something that's coming up for our loyal listeners in a couple months. We're going to France, baby. At least I am.
Justin "The Juice"
I forget the French national anthem, but I used to know it because I took French in high school.
Geno
Woo! I believe it's Ça plane pour moi by Plastic Bird Band or Sans pitié by Pink Martini. They're interchangeable.
Justin "The Juice"
Who is the band? Who is the metal band that played at the Paris Olympics?
Geno
That was Gojira.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, it's a Gojira song. That's right. That's the French national anthem. It's not.
Geno
Oh, man. I, uh, oh.
Justin "The Juice"
Maybe it's a Daft Punk song? I don't know.
Caleb
Yeah. Good news is I have reserved an electric Peugeot 2008 or similar from Enterprise in France.
Justin "The Juice"
That'll be interesting. You're gonna have to do a Pat, you're gonna have to whip some shitties.
Caleb
Yeah, I don't know if my wife will permit me to do that, but we have some excellent stops planned and there are going to be some very Hampian live dispatches coming out of this one and for the socials and all that for listeners of our broadcast.
Justin "The Juice"
You know, I didn't think I I don't think I asked or paid attention to what your reasoning was, but why are you— why do you have to go to France?
Caleb
Because, I think I mentioned this in our last recording, but our— the actress who is a mutual crush of both myself and my wife has come out of her bog in Ireland. and is appearing at a, at a convention for the first time in several years. And so us, it was like, holy shit, Katie McCry is out of hiding. We need to go to that.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, so it's vacation.
Caleb
Yeah, it's vacation. And then, um, the actress who played Supergirl in the Supergirl series, because Katie played Lena Luthor, and my wife and I met because we were both fans of the same Supergirl fanfic that shipped Supergirl and Lena Luthor.
Justin "The Juice"
Holy shit.
Caleb
Oh, that's—
Justin "The Juice"
that's the best.
Caleb
This is a Supercorp podcast.
Justin "The Juice"
That's the most chronically online meet cute you could imagine. I love that.
Geno
clearly not being bullied enough.
Caleb
On Twitter.
Justin "The Juice"
Oh my God. Why can't I— need to meet me a girl like that.
Caleb
Damn.
Justin "The Juice"
I'm jealous. That's fire. Your wife is great.
Caleb
Damn, I like that.
Geno
That's good.
Caleb
But yeah, we're going to be at this con and it— and both of the actresses for the ship that we ship are going to be there.
Justin "The Juice"
You're gonna lose your fucking mind. Y'all, y'all are gonna lose your fucking mind.
Caleb
Oh, it's already starting.
Justin "The Juice"
Well, I'm happy for y'all.
Caleb
We're getting there about a— we're getting there a week and a half early, almost 2 weeks early, so that we can take a road trip first. And so I've— I have an itinerary planned out, and by itinerary I mean, okay, these are things I want to see. See on this trip. So it's like we're going to Le Mans, we're going to Magny-Cours, we're going to Sochaux, which is the historic home of Peugeot. You know, we are going to Strasbourg, which is just beautiful city in the mountains right on the border with Germany. We are going to Reims.
Geno
We're going to see we're going to see the I think I might have pissed off some French listeners there.
Caleb
I think you might have. It's okay. We have built up enough love because we actually do truly love the French.
Justin "The Juice"
No, I do too. Yeah. The memes, the jokes, the memes, they're fun, but I love, I love the French. I love France.
Geno
Nobody who makes cars that weird can be bad.
Justin "The Juice"
That's exactly, exactly, exactly. And now you're gonna have to report, you're gonna have to report on how the green McDonald's are.
Caleb
Yes. Like, the thing is, with like our attitude toward the French, I look at the French and I think, why can't we be more like them?
Justin "The Juice"
It's true. Maybe, maybe without the cigarettes and the stench, but Look, look, cigarettes are great.
Geno
Like, I don't smoke, but if smoking weren't awful for you, like, if it weren't bad for you, like, I would smoke so much. Like, French people would be like, I think he smokes a little much.
Justin "The Juice"
That's fair. I mean, the Pujo, the 505 that I had When you were in 5th gear, you rest your hand on the gearshift, your hand was in perfect position to tap off your cigarette and ash it in the ashtray.
Geno
This is the kind of conscious design that you just don't see from automakers these days.
Caleb
Yeah. I know.
Justin "The Juice"
It's—
Caleb
Stellantis is ruining Peugeot.
Justin "The Juice"
Stellantis is— Peugeot is ruining Peugeot! Stellantis is mostly Peugeot! Peugeot is the biggest manufacturer. The Peugeot— it's okay. Peugeot Citroën Automobiles or whatever PSA meant, they formed Stellantis. So it's Peugeot is the, the, the hegemon.
Caleb
There was also a— there was also Fiat though, because it was PSA and FCA.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, PSA and FCA. But, but I, I, I, I— are you saying that the FCA rubbed off on the PSA?
Geno
It would seem that way.
Justin "The Juice"
That might be the case. So Chrysler somehow ruins everything they touch.
Geno
That's, that's not fair. Like, Chrysler was awesome until it wasn't.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, I meant modern Chrysler. Nope, they're the, the Americans The Americans couldn't save Chrysler. The French couldn't save Chrysler.
Geno
The Americans saved Chrysler.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, the American—
Caleb
The Germans ruined Chrysler.
Geno
It was the Germans.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, the Americans saved Chrysler with the help of the French. Then the Germans ruined Chrysler. Then the Italians just took a shit everywhere. And then the French are back to They were trying to save Chrysler again, but I think the, the Italian is rubbing off on them.
Geno
Hey, yeah, but it was, it was the Germans. Like, I knew the writing was on the wall in the early 2000s when they discontinued the Neon.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, yeah. The only good thing that Daimler Chrysler— Daimler Chrysler made 2— made one Incredible concept car, the ME412, which still needs to be produced. And then they made one good— uh, good is, is maybe pushing it, but one— they had one good idea. And I will still defend this vehicle, and it is the most unexpected vehicle that anyone would ever defend, but the fucking First-gen Chrysler Pacifica was badass.
Geno
Yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
It was super forward-thinking and it was super, uh, German. Like, it was basically a Mercedes in terms of the quality. Like, it had GPS, uh, screen in the gauge cluster in 2004. Who's doing that?
Caleb
So I'll throw one out there for you. I still have mad love for the Crossfire.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, I love the Crossfire too, I'll give you that. I do actually, I will defend the Crossfire.
Caleb
And the Dodge Magnum.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, okay.
Geno
Oh, the Magnum.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, and on all of— and the Charger and the Challenger, they had the rear suspension from an E-Class.
Caleb
I won't defend the Charger because Tennessee State Troopers drive them. So I will not defend the Charger.
Justin "The Juice"
That's not Daimler Chrysler's fault.
Caleb
Look, a lot of—
Justin "The Juice"
I guess it kind of is because they made a cop version.
Geno
Crown Vics are still cool.
Justin "The Juice"
True.
Caleb
Yeah, but Crown Vic is just iconic. And also the Crown Vic will still be running after the apocalypse.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, mod motor. 4.6 mod motor.
Caleb
4.6 mod motor.
Justin "The Juice"
That's the only motor that ever needed to exist and ever does need to exist.
Geno
B230.
Justin "The Juice"
All right, fine. There are only 2 motors that have ever needed to exist: the B230 and the 4.6 mod motor, especially with a fucking, uh, Kenny Bell supercharger slapped on that hoe.
Geno
Chrysler V10.
Justin "The Juice"
Okay, but, but, but what about a Triton V10? What about a mod motor V10?
Geno
Yeah, it was never in a— it was never in a, um, in a Viper, so I don't care.
Justin "The Juice"
Well, we could fix that. We could throw a Triton V10 in a fucking New Edge Mustang.
Geno
So now correct me if I'm wrong, the, uh, the V10 for the Viper was the truck motor, but they redid it to be aluminum. Right?
Caleb
That is correct.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah, I, yeah, I just know that they did an aluminum Triton. I don't know if there's an aluminum Triton, probably not. But can you imagine Triton V10 in something, let's just say New Edge Mustang, with a Kenny Bell supercharger? So it's the Ultra Terminator. This is Terminator 2. It's better than the first one.
Geno
And for fuel management, GMTVI.
Caleb
Hell yeah.
Justin "The Juice"
Hell yeah. I, I used to drive— I used to drive— I used— yeah, I used to drive an F-650, uh, or was it a 7? No, it was an F-650, uh, moving truck. 20 26-foot box truck with a Triton V10, and it barely moved. But I will say it sounded pretty cool, and it was comfortable.
Caleb
It's all you need. And on that note, I feel like we are reaching some pretty good conclusions here.
Justin "The Juice"
So I'd say that's a, that's a broadcast because I gotta piss.
Geno
Yeah, same here. I could talk about all the crap I did to the 9.4. But I gotta urinate.
Caleb
So, all right. Any last words for our listeners?
Justin "The Juice"
Don't forget to check your diff fluid. Because your pinion seal might be leaking.
Caleb
I mean, it happens to all of us as we get old.
Geno
Pull your door panels off and lube up the lock mechanisms. You'll thank yourself later.
Caleb
Oh my—
Justin "The Juice"
oh, that reminds me, the Stagea's doors are so frickin' hard to open and close because they need to be greased.
Geno
Ugh.
Caleb
All right. Buy a French car.
Justin "The Juice"
Yeah! Own a French car at some point in your life. Like Jeremy Clarkson used to say, you're not a real car enthusiast unless you— until you own an Alfa Romeo. But I will also add a French car.
Caleb
I've had the Alfa, so yeah, I still need a French car.
Justin "The Juice"
I haven't yet. I haven't had the alpha, so I need to change that.
Geno
I haven't either. I don't know when I'll have the chance, but I'm down.
Caleb
Yeah. All right, y'all, see you next week.
Geno
See ya.
Justin "The Juice"
Bye.
